Create A Time-Off Policy

Learn how to create a time-off policy in People

To create a new time-off policy, head to Manage Time-Off from the left navigation, and click Add Time-Off Policy in the top right of your screen.

Choose from one of the pre-set options, or select the "start your own policy from scratch" link at the bottom of the page. Note that you can change any of the pre-set options to customize your policy.

Next, choose the time off policy you'd like to create. You can create an Unlimited, Upfront, or Accrual policy. 

If you choose an Accrual policy, People by Wagepoint will automatically calculate the accrual rate based on the number of days allowed in the policy. Check it out: 

Once you choose a policy type, enter the details of the policy. Choose the policy name, display in hours or days, and the amount of time-off you'd like to give.

You can also set an effective date, however this is optional. If left blank, the policy will calculate from the last renewal date or the employees start date, whichever comes first (this is usually the preferred calculation). 

At any time while setting up the policy, you can click to go back to the previous step.

Note: if the "Display the policy name" box is checked, the policy name will show to all employees on the calendar. This may be suitable for some policies, but not all.

Next, choose your work schedule and renewal date. You can also set and expire carry over, and a waiting (or probationary) period. 

Choosing a first of the year renewal will automatically pro-rate an employee's time based on their start date. If your employees' time off grows with their tenure, it's easier to manage first of the year renewal dates vs. individual start dates. 

Next, you can add employees (or click Review Policy to save your policy without adding employees) by selecting each employee or clicking select all. You can also choose to send an email notification to those employees. 

Finally, review your policy settings and if they look good, then you're ready! Click Let's Do This to launch your policy!
